Definition and description of Exercise for Health

Definition and description of Exercise for Health. Health related Exercise is defined as an exercise that aims primarily at preventing or treating health problems (chronic or not), reducing the risks associated with them and generally aiming at improving our health, thus our quality of life. According to the ACSM Guidelines, all individuals that take part in systematic training programs should include, in their weekly training plan, exercises that emphasize the improvement of their cardiorespiratory and metabolic system, so that normal levels of health indexes are maintained. As a result, the Health Related Exercise differs from the well-known term “Fitness” in both philosophy and content. Health Related Exercise does not contain the same forms of exercise that Fitness does. It is simpler but much more focused on each trainee’s needs and goals. These goals derive from special needs or health related problems that each trainee may have. Therefore, the exercises focus on specific prescribed exercises (type, intensity, duration), the purpose of which is to prevent or treat several health problems, taking into consideration the factors that affect the condition, or preventing recurrence episodes, as well as maintaining a good physical condition.
