In general, boys feel better than girls: 41% say their health is good, compared to only 33% of girls. Another factor is the social background. Adolescents from low-income families are more likely to report health problems (migraines, abdominal pain, lower back pain) in more than a third of countries. Hans Kluge, director of the World Health Organization’s European Office, said: “Investing in young people….will have a triple benefit in health, but also a social and economic benefit for today’s teenagers, tomorrow’s adults.” The HBSC (Health Behavior in School-Elderly Children) international survey, conducted every four years under the aegis of the WHO European Service, allows the identification of all 11-, 13- and 15-year-olds in the health sector. A percentage of 35% of the 227,441 students who took part in the survey during the period 2017-2018 are considered intensive – excessive users of social media. At the top are 15-year-old Italian girls with 63%, compared to 11-year-old Albanians who come last with 12%. “The frequency of on-line contacts increases with age and different behaviors are observed depending on gender. Girls are more likely to be intensive – excessive users, but boys are more likely to discuss personal issues online. ” Overall, only 14% of teens prefer virtual communication over live chat.
Smoking and alcohol decrease
