Paralympics: “Focus on what each person can do”

Well, we always talk about an accessible society, while at the same time the word inclusion is increasingly used when referring to people with disabilities. But why do we use this word so often if we claim to be a sophisticated society? And what makes the society accessible, its people or its conformation? Should we stop labeling people as disabled and instead focus on what each person can actually do? Let’s see what all this means in practice. Inclusion means that “all individuals regardless of their abilities have the right to be respected and valued as equal members of the society, to fully participate in the community’s activities and to interact in an environment that promotes socialisation”. Change and progress always begins at the root. In modern society, school is a carrier of culture, civilization and knowledge, while providing literacy and education. Given this, school should be equally accessible to everyone and bring all children together. Athletics is a means of transmitting culture, maintains the status quo and brings social groups closer.

Sports and inclusion

In the field of physical education, children’s participation in sport events aims at their socialisation and edification.

What is inclusive physical education

  • It involves students with special abilities and needs in general physical education classes
  • Supports these students when they want to participate in physical activities before, during and after school
  • Encourages them to have the same roles and experiences as their peers during physical education

As we can tell from all the above, school community but also social context ,play an excessive role  and have a huge responsibility for people with special abilities and needs!
