Gender equality in Sports

Gender equality in Sports

Sport in general could be defined as a means of resolving disputes and preventing human rights violations. A typical example is the Olympic Games, which have always functioned as a means of ensuring peace between the sexes, nationalities, language, etc.

What has been the position of women in sports in the past?

The athletic body was associated with the “male” body and therefore a fit body in a woman was not accepted at all by the society.  At the same time, sports were considered “masculine” by nature as they required special physical strength and endurance as well as large energy and mental reserves.  Women thus theoretically did not have many opportunities to participate in various sports activities and thus engaged in other activities.  Women who were involved in sports were few and this was evident from their participation in sports events e.g. Olympic Games which it was minimal to negligible in proportion to men.

The position of women in sports today

Today women are involved in any sport they wish without being criticized by society.  The female athletic body is a sign of health and well-being, which makes it particularly wonderful.  They love martial arts, football, basketball and practice it without fear of other people’s reactions.  However, the participation of women in the Olympic Games until 2021 is not equal to that of men.  Learn more about equality in general here   Katerina Zouganeli    Sources  Αυγερινός Θ.
