COVID: The best diet that lowers the risk of a serious infection

People that ate high quality foods were  10% less likely to get the virus than those that ate lower quality foods and 40% less likely to get seriously ill, according to a recent study by the researchers at King’s and Harvard Medical School. The study looked at the dietary patterns of approximately 600.000 people.  A high quality diet included plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains, as well as fatty fish, less processed foods and refined carbohydrates. The low quality diet was associated with highly processed foods and less amounts of plant-based foods. The researchers found that people on a higher-quality diet were 10% less likely to get sick than those on a not so nutritious diet and 40% less likely to get seriously ill if they eventually contracted the virus. It is worth noting that 19% of the participants finally were tested positive for the virus. At the same time the risk of covid disease was even bigger when the socio-economical backrounds of the participants were identified. People that were living in poor neighborhoods and were eating a lower-quality diet were 25% more likely to get sick than people from richer communities who ate the same way.According to the researchers, almost 1/4 of coronavirus cases could have been avoided if those differences among the communities existed. source: ygeiamou. gr.
