How to spend the Christmas holidays as safe as possible (COVID edition)

On the one hand, COVID is still here and continues to worry us. On the other hand, in a few days, the holidays will come again, the days that are associated with joy, happiness and hope. How can we combine the two so that we can protect ourselves from the virus and at the same time enjoy the most wonderful time of the year? The following tips from Swansea University Senior Lecturer, Simon Nicholas Williams may help us do just that!

Get vaccinated!

Millions of people have rushed to get the COVID vaccine. Within the general population there are also those people that avoid the vaccine because they have their own reasons. If you are one of those people, it is never too late to make an appointment for the first dose of the COVID vaccine. If you are fully vaccinated then book your appointment for the third dose. If the appointment is before the holidays then you are lucky! Compared to what happened last year, the vaccine this year is the “weapon” we have against the disease. Studies have shown that those who have been vaccinated, even if they get sick they won’t have a serious illness while they will reduce the chances of transmitting the virus to their family. It is important to get the flu vaccine too because the combination of both diseases can be even fatal.

Limit contacts before the holidays

If you already know that during the holidays you will have various invitations to which you will not be able to answer negatively, it would be good to limit the amount of time you spent with other people before the holidays. Don’t stay in the house all the time. Just avoid large gatherings.

Reduce the people you invite in the festive table

Unfortunately, this year we will not be able to make the big gathering we used to. If you want to be safe invite six people or even less.  When there are more people, the chances of transmitting the virus increase greatly.

Ventilate your home as much as possible

Finally, make sure you ventilate your home well after a gathering and if it is not too cold always have a window open. Cold temperatures create a better airflow. Recent Articles
