After an exhaustive workout, the feeling of pain in various parts of the body is – to a certain extent – expected.

There are many reasons why a headache can occur. Most often it is not something to worry about, especially when it is not accompanied by other symptoms. However, if it occurs systematically and is accompanied by nausea, vomiting, blurred vision or even congestion, you should consult a specialist.

Possible causes for headache after exercise

Low blood sugar

When you exercise, your body “burns” sugar and if your blood sugar levels are too low, it may cause a headache. Experts say that each time the body detects low sugar levels in the brain, it releases adrenaline to increase glucose levels. This is done through a process called gluconeogenesis.

The release of adrenaline, causes muscle tension, as well as neck tension. Almost all the headaches come from some tension located in the neck, which ends up in our head.
So be sure to consume the carbohydrates that the body needs for your demanding workouts.

Extreme weather

If, for example, you run five kilometers across a mountain in winter or on the beach in summer, you may start to feel a headache. Headache can be a reaction of the body to the elevation difference or extreme temperatures.

Dehydration

During training, the body loses fluids – mainly through sweat. This is why it is important to adequately hydrate your body before your workouts.
