Are you getting older? Find out about the nutritional needs of your body (Part 1)
Every age has its own beauty and nutritional needs. Find out below what valuable ingredients the body needs as you grow older so that you continue to stay healthy and well.
Calcium
As we grow older we lose this mineral which we get from food. The result is that we develop diseases such as osteoporosis that make the bones weaker. Calcium helps muscles, nerves, cells and blood vessels to function properly. Calcium is obtained from the bones which in turn receive it from the foods we consume. Women over 50 and men over 70 should get 20% more calcium than other adults. Best sources are cheese, milk and yogurt.
Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 helps build blood vessels and neurons. You can find it in foods such as meat, fish, eggs and dairy.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D helps nerves, muscles and the immune system work well. Also it helps the body absorb calcium. We usually get it from the sun but as we get older our body can not convert the rays into the vitamin. There are supplements to this vitamin that you can take or instead eat fatty fish such as sardines and salmon often.
Vitamin B6
Studies have shown that there is a correlation between vitamin B6 and good memory. Also, your body uses it to battle germs and to give you energy. You can find it in foods such as chickpeas, fatty fish and cereals. Giota Florou source: webmd.com Recent Articles
