Are you in your mid 30’s? Here’s what you have to pay attention to
Americans who are around 35 to 36 have more stress, according to a new study. Specifically, the study was conducted on 2000 Americans over the age of 30 and 18% answered that they are «constantly» under stress. Okay, the percentage may not be that high. However, those who have a hard time calming down are likely to suffer from the consequences of their current mental state in the future. That is, to deal with many health problems such as depression, headaches, heart and respiratory problems as well as problems with the digestive and immune system. The good news from this study are that almost two-thirds of respondents believe they can manage their stress better than they did ten years ago. In addition, 75% are more aware of the relationship between physical and mental stress.
What causes stress
Money issues (52%) and family problems (51%) are what stress Americans the most. Their third biggest concern is their demanding jobs (36%). An additional 74% of the respondents answered that when they have less energy, it is more difficult for them to deal with external stressors. However, more than three quarters noted that when they take care of themselves and their body through exercise, diet, hydration and other methods, they feel better equipped to deal with external stressors.
How they manage stress
Most respondents have switched from a reactive to a more preventive stress management. In particular, they said that they have withdrawn some of the old methods of dealing with stress, such as alcohol consumption (31%) and junk food consumption (29%). In contrast, the most popular forms of stress relief today include listening to music (46%), exercising (40%), watching movies or television (35%), and natural remedies and taking supplements (28%). However, more than half of those that participated in the survey usually do not realize that they are stressed until it has a noticeable effect on their health – including sleep problems (50%), headaches (45%), cravings (38%).
