Are you stressed out? Do the 1′ practice to relax!

Are you stressed out? Do the 1′ practice to relax!

Many things in our everyday life can stress us out. But there are certainly several ways to relax as well, such as deep breathing, meditation and exercise.  What if you have just one minute to relieve your stress though?   American therapist Stephanie Rae has a quick body scan and then a quick practice to suggest, consisting of some basic body relaxing movements.

Steps to de-stress yourself

When you do the body scan, the goal is to find out where the tension has built up.  Then do the following:  Relax your jaw, unclench your teeth and take a few deep breaths.  Move to the neck area. If your shoulders are hunched upwards, this shouts tension. So lift your shoulders up and bring them down and back.  Move your arms as if there’s an annoying bug on them. Clench and unclench your fists so that all the unnecessary energy is gone.  Move your eyeballs right-left and up-down and blink your eyes several times.  Then, as funny as it sounds, stick your tongue out to further relax your jaw area and other muscles of your face.  Finally, take three deep breaths, inflating the belly on the inhale and deflating on the exhale. This is the quickest way to completely calm down and clear your mind.  Extra tip:  Focus on one spot to prevent any disturbing thoughts.  Start exercising and make stress a habit of the past!
