Exercise: When it can bad for you

Exercise has many benefits for your physical and mental health. In most of our articles we have referred to them. But like all things in life there are two sides to the coin. If your exercise exceeds certain limits then it can cause you many problems that you may have never imagined. Exercising for an hour a day is good for the heart and reduces the chances of obesity and high blood pressure. However, when the exercise lasts for many hours then the body is strained and structural changes can occur in the heart and arteries. In fact, you may start having irregular heartbeat. Exercise strains the immune system even when it is normal. Immediately after exercise your immune system may need 3 to 24 hours to recover. But when you overdo it, your body is exhausted and can not fight even a common cold. Ιt has been found that people who run a marathon take longer to recover from an infection than usual. Exercise usually tires you in a good way and as a result you can sleep better at night. But if you exercise excessively, especially in the afternoon or the evening you might have problems sleeping. Exercise produces the hormones of joy (endorphins) and so you have a more positive mood and less stress. However, when you have exceeded the limits then your body becomes overly stressed and large amounts of cortisol, the hormone associated with stress, are produced. This can cause bad mood and even signs of depression. Finally, in women, excessive exercise can mess with their menstrual cycle. Giota Florou (source:https://livehealthy.chron.com) Recent Articles
