“Fair play” as a state of mind and its value to the individual through sport

“Fair play” as a state of mind Its value to the individual through sport  No matter how little you have been involved in sports, I guess that you have heard fans arguing over “fair play”.  Although we are accustomed to hearing this, we do not always fully understand its value as a mindset, both in sports and later in life.  Apart from physical activity, movement skills and building fitness, sports also contribute to someone’s moral development. It is no coincidence that child psychologists and educators recommend that it is critical for children to get involved in sports from an early age. They adopt concepts such as ‘’healthy living’’, ‘’healthy mind in a healthy body”, even “fair play”. They learn about teamwork, cooperation and other life skills, as goal setting and enjoy achieving them. They develop self-esteem, self-satisfaction and also how to deal with loosing of failing at an effort.  By focusing, however, on the “fair game”, children can tell the difference between right and wrong behaviors. They learn to retreat, compromise and accept, as well as to set limits, discuss and communicate.  So, if physical development is not a strong motivation to get involved in sports, how about moral refinement? We think that you’ll definitely agree on that!  Check out our amazing seminars Kids Athletics and Kids Pilates! Chrysa Athanasiadou   Source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov Seminars Recent Articles
