Gyms after lockdown – What’s going on in the U.S.
The United States gives us a first glimpse of how gyms are going to be like in the post quarantine and lockdown era. As it seems, masks will have the leading role, along with thermometres and of course the newly signed agreements by gym members regarding the new data and virus safety precautions. Τhe first gym openings took place last Friday in certain states of America. Under suffocating pressure exerted by sports center owners on the government , gyms were included in the first phase of the White House program “ Opening Up America Again” . An answer as to whether this decision is correct or incorrect cannot be given. However, it has become clear to the fitness sector operating companies that they must strictly adhere to the already existing protocols in order to ensure the health of the citizens. There will be gyms asking their members to measure their temperature before entering the facility. Besides, fever is one of the many and most common symptoms of Covid-19. At the same time, there will be many companies asking their customers to sign renewed contracts, which will ensure their safety as the main goal. Large fitness facilities are expected to be closed at least once a day for disinfection purposes, with US media reporting that other gyms will ask members to wear masks during their training.
Georgia’s… case study
Georgia is one of the last US states to enforce quarantine. Yet, last Friday, the authorities allowed the opening of the gyms (as well as other businesses). And according to orders given by Governor Brian Keb, the sports centers will have to comply with a total of 16 new measures in order to continue operating normally. Naturally, there are some gym chains in this state that have not yet decided to open their spaces to their members.
Big and small gyms
Lately, there has been a lot of talk about whether big gyms are safer than small ones or just the opposite. Reasonably, it is easier for training members to distance themselves from each other in a large gym , thus preventing the spread of the virus. However, according to Men’s Health, fitness experts claim that disinfecting larger gym spaces is harder and more time consuming , given the fact that gyms are not like other common public spaces, where people come and go without touching anything.
Members and Trainers After Lockdown Lift
It is noteworthy that according to research conducted by US gyms, the vast majority of gym members said they would return to their training facilities immediately after the lockdown was lifted. The same applies to gym owners and gym staff.
