Honesty is the best policy: Why is honesty so important?
Honesty: “the quality of someone who speaks openly about what he feels and thinks, the unadulterated behavior”. Honesty is something we seek in all our relationships. But why is it a trait we look for in humans?
Honesty:
Promotes authenticity
Honesty is a reflection of your own thoughts and feelings. If you want people to know your true self then they can only know ιτ if you have that quality.
It cultivates courage
Many times honesty is synonymous with courage. It takes a lot of courage to say what you really feel. It is often difficult and requires practice and patience, but it always has good results.
It shows that you care
Being honest with yourself and others shows how much you really care and also that you respect yourself and others too.
It sets an example
If you are yourself you become an example for others.
Shows maturity and self-acceptance
Often one person can be honest but hurt someone with their honesty. A mature person is honest without creating a painful impact. When others are hurt, however, the mature self-accepting person stays with them to deal with this unpleasant feeling.
It unites
Honesty can bring people closer by creating a secure connection. It creates a framework for the relationship in which both parties feel safe enough to be authentic in their interactions. Such a relationship can empower each member to work to address some extremely personal issues.
It is liberating
Being authentic and saying what you feel and think frees you from the constraints of fear.
It attracts honesty
If honesty becomes an unconscious habit, you will attract other honest people, who will give another meaning to your life.
It keeps you away from problems
When you lie, then you are looking for the most secure place to hide because you create problems with your behaviour. Giota Florou (source: https://elementalwellnesscoaching.wordpress.com/) Recent Articles
