Sports tourism: the summer trend we all need!

We are all going through a challenging period right now, due to the pandemic and the drastic vaccination process that speeds up day by day. We certainly have the need to unwind and relax this summer and take our minds off this whole situation. So, what’s better than exercising in the places we’re going to visit on our vacation? Well, that is called sports tourism and it is awesome!

What exactly is sports tourism?

Sports tourism is when someone is involved in sports activities while they’re on their vacation and they’re doing it for their own entertainment and not for competing in a sport event. These activities include 5 types:

  1. The active, when the tourist is participating in a sport event
  2. Their personal improvement in a specific sport
  3. The passive form, as spectators of a sport
  4. Visiting places related to the history and culture of the sport
  5. The improvement of their physical condition in general

More specifically, the forms could be:

  1. Training tourism for amateur and professional teams
  2. Tourism with additional attendance in sporting events
  3. Participation in major sporting events
  4. Outdoor activities
  5. Sports and leisure in hotels

How can we take advantage of sports tourism?

First of all, lots of hotels have gym facilities with lots of equipment such as treadmills, dumbbells, balls etc. So, guests can exercise under the supervision of trainers. At the same time, many hotels organize group training programs in outdoor facilities or at the beach. They also organize yoga and pilates groups, and they even provide personal training. Finally, let’s not forget about water sports! Summer is the perfect season to discover all about jet skiing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, scuba diving, paragliding and many many more!
