SUP: Fun and sports go together! – Discover the new trend in water sports

Summer is coming really soon and it’s a great chance to introduce you to a very famous sport you can try anytime. This is none other than SUP or Stand Up Paddle. It basically involves standing on a large surfboard with a non-slip floor and rowing with an oar. This sport was invented in Polynesia. The pioneers are said to be the Hawaiian village leaders, who wanted to make it easier for them to get out of the sea when the weather was not good. Nowadays, it’s one of the most popular water sports, with its reputation spreading further by Hollywood stars who love to indulge in it during their summer vacations. Relatively recently, it became famous in Greece as well and now there are many schools for both professionals and beginners to try it out.

Target Audience

SUP is suitable for people of all ages, since it doesn’t require knowledge or special skills.

The lessons

Of course, to get started with SUP, it’s a good idea to take some basic courses first. The trainer shows you how to place your feet on the board in order to keep your balance. He also demonstrates the direction of the paddle in order to turn the board appropriately and how to stop it so that the rower can get down.

The benefits

This particular sport combines fun and exercise at the same time. Losing up to 500 calories in just half an hour, it makes it a great choice of aerobic exercise, depending of course on the intensity you paddle. At the same time, it strengthens the leg muscles, as they are the ones that work to keep you balanced on the floating board. Finally, by paddling, you can also strengthen your arms and shoulders.
