Running is a great way to exercise and has many benefits for the human body.

Benefits of running

Running and generaly cardio exercise, improves cardiovascular function and endurance. It can boost our mood thanks to a “hormone cocktail” that our bodies produce during the exercise and also improves muscle tissue and bone strength. All that, of course, combined with a nutrient rich diet make a great combo!  Another part of our body that benefits from running is our brain, as it oxygenates better, thus improving our memory as well!

Get started

Start with some light jogging. Find an easy pace and aim for a short distance.   Breathing is probably the most important thing in distance running, which requires a specific stride rate but also a steady rhythm.

  • Keep a specific stride rate and not run faster than you can, unless you wish to stop all the time to catch your breath.
  • If you are wondering how to breathe correctly, all you have to do is listen to your body and follow its pace.

Careful! Inhale from your nose and exhale through your mouth!

Be careful

Is it better to run on the road or on natural ground?  Well, it is better to run on a natural ground rather than the road, especially if you’re an amateur. Asphalt doesn’t absorb vibrations and that means extra stress on our joints.

What about clothing?

Don’t neglect clothing! By wearing the right pair of shoes or the right clothes your body feels better, plus it has a great impact in your psychology too. Also, never forget your sunscreen, hat and sunglasses, as the sun can be dangerous.

Running during summer

Heat is definitely not your friend during this time of the year, so it would be better to go running either early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Don’t forget to hydrate yourself adequately and eat some salt, as your body will definitely need electrolyte refill, due to sweating.

Start at your own pace and try to enjoy it as much as you can! Happy running!
