Wakeboard vs Water Skiing: What are the differences?

Wakeboard vs Water Skiing: What are the differences?

You are probably familiar with water skiing. If you are a fan of extreme sports, you are probably also familiar with wakeboard.   Do you know what is the difference between the two, so you can decide if either one suits you?  Read carefully and find out!

Similarities & Differences

No, they are not as similar as they look…  Both wakeboarding and water skiing are two sports that involve towing a board, where the athlete balances on it (or two, in the case of skiing), holding a rope in both cases.  Thus, they must first balance on the water and then cope with various challenges.

Wakeboard

Wakeboard involves a large snowboard that wraps around the athlete’s legs. There are two boots “glued” onto the board. The wakeboarders put their feet in and the bootskeep them stable. So, the feet remain “tied” to the wakeboard even when they fall into the water.   The wakeboard can be longer or shorter, making the race easier or harder. The wakeboarder can perform jumps and impressive maneuvres on the board, holding the rope, and using his body.  The sport is a mix of other sports, as the techniques of wakeboarding are taken from surfing and snowboarding.  Both the great dexterity of the wakeboarder and the difficulty required to perform water tricks, classify wakeboarding as an extreme sport!

Water skiing

Waterskiing, on the other hand, involves a pair of ski boards – or one ski, in the case of slalom waterskiing. When the rider rests their feet on two boards, the process is familiar. You need to balance between the 2 feet!  Water skiing consists of 3 events (slalom, figures, jumping), each requiring different skills and practice.  “Aqua Fitness” workshop is a fact – only at Base Training Academy.

Which one to chose

The skis needed to perform water skiing don’t give the same flexibility as wakeboards’. The latter are easier to use, allowing the skier to perform jumps and more impressive figures.  Thus, the wakeboard gained popularity in recent years, especially among younger people.  Base Training is giving you the opportunity to become the greatest “Sports Coach”.

But of course, the choice is all yours!
